HB 2270 appropriates monies from the state general fund to finance court drug treatment programs for FY 2001-2002 and FY 2002-2003.
Pursuant to ARS section 13-3422, the presiding judge of each superior court may establish a drug court program for the purpose of prosecuting, adjudicating and treating drug dependant persons. These individuals must meet the criteria and guidelines for entry into the program, which are developed and agreed upon by the presiding judge and the prosecutor.
There is no current state appropriation to the drug courts earmarked for drug court treatment programs. They are funded partly through other state appropriations and by the counties.
The three main uses of funds by the drug court are counseling, drug testing of participants, and residential treatment.
