HB 2241 codifies the current fees authorized in the Administrative Rules of the Arizona Structural Pest Control Commission [SPCC].

History

The Arizona legislature established the Structural Pest Control Commission in 1988 to protect the public health and safety by regulating the storage, use, and application of pesticides and devices used in controlling pests.  The SPCC enforces federal and state laws by regulating the commercial pest control industry, including the use of pesticides.   Every person who works for a pest control firm must be registered with the Commission.  Applicators must demonstrate competence by passing an examination.  In order to obtain a Qualifying Party License, the person must work in the industry for a minimum of two years and pass a more rigorous exam.  Finally, the SPCC licenses approximately 1,200 businesses and certifies about 6,500 applicators.

Current law allows the Commission to assess and collect fees for services that include initial and renewal business license fees, employee registration and qualifying party examination fees.

HB 2241 codifies fees currently charged by the SPCC.
