As Passed the House

HB 2240 allows the Department of Economic Security (DES) to establish eligibility requirements for a dependent child to receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) cash assistance if circumstances prevent the child's parent or parents from continuing to care for the child under certain circumstances.

Provisions

·                      Allows the director of DES to determine TANF cash assistance eligibility requirements for a dependent child if circumstances prevent the parent or parents from continuing to care for the child.  The director shall adopt rules to determine eligibility for an ineligible child if the parent or parents who are receiving cash assistance:

·                      Are deceased.

·                      Begin to receive supplemental security income.

·                      Abandon the child.

·                      Become incarcerated.

HB 2240 was amended in the Human Services Committee to clarify that the home of the child refers to the child's usual place of abode.
