mandatory motor vehicle
insurance; study committee
HB 2163 establishes a joint study committee to examine the impact of mandatory motor vehicle insurance requirements in this state.
In 1982, Arizona passed mandatory insurance legislation that required motor vehicles to be covered by an auto liability policy or other form of financial responsibility. Current law requires Arizona drivers to have liability insurance. The mandatory policy must provide at least $15,000 in coverage for accidents involving bodily injury to or death of one person, $30,000 in coverage for two or more people, and $10,000 in coverage for injury to or property damage of others in any one accident. The Department of Motor Vehicles suspends a person’s license plate if the individual does not have valid insurance.
