            HB 2148 broadens an existing law that voids certain contracts with an individual accused of a crime.

 

History

           

Current law makes void any contract with a person accused of a crime if the contract is related to reenactments of the crime the only exception of this prohibition are: 

 

1.      If an accused is subsequently found not guilty of the crime.

2.      The monies derived from such a contract go to the State Industrial Commission for deposit in a crime victim fund.

 

Provisions

 

·                      Expands the class of contracts that are statutorily void if contracted with a person accused of a crime to include a contract for an internet or online presentation or depiction of the crime.

 

HB 2148 was amended in the Judiciary Committee as follows:

 

·                      Broadens the types of prohibited contracts to include descriptions and depictions of the crime in addition to reenactments.

 

·                      Makes a conforming change.

 

HB 2148 passed the Energy Utilities and Technology unamended
