HB 2096 requires elections for candidates for public office by political subdivisions, school districts or special taxing districts be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November.

 

History

 

In an effort by the Legislature to increase voter participation and decrease the costs to taxpayers, current law requires that all elections which are conducted by counties, cities or towns, school districts, community college districts or special taxing districts be on a limited number of election days.  The consolidated election days are as follows:

 

1).  The second Tuesday in March.  

2).  The third Tuesday in May.   

3).  The eighth Tuesday before the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. 

4).  The first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. 

 

Provisions

 

·                      HB 2096 requires county, city or town, school district or special taxing district elections at which candidates for public office are to be elected to be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November.

 

HB 2096 was amended in Retirement and Government Operations Committee as follows:

 

·        Limits the days elections may be held at which candidates for public office will be elected to items three and four.
