HB 2084 changes the name of the Special Donations Fund to the Arizona Pioneers’ Home Fund and divides the fund into two separate accounts. Additionally, the bill designates a parcel of state sovereign land for the Arizona Pioneers’ Home Cemetery and authorizes the superintendent of the Arizona Pioneers’ Home to manage the cemetery.

History

Laws 1998, Chapter 244, created the Special Donations Fund. This fund consists of monies, grants, gifts and contributions donated to the Arizona Pioneer’s Home. Monies in this fund were to be used to benefit the residents of the home or for other uses authorized by the superintendent. HB 2084 modifies statutes relating to this fund.

Provisions

·              Changes the name of the Special Donations Fund to the Arizona Pioneers’ Home Fund and divides the fund into a Special Donations Account and a Lease Proceeds Account.

·              Stipulates that donations received from the public for the Arizona Pioneers’ Home will be deposited into the Special Donations Account.

·              Authorizes the use of state land to establish the Arizona Pioneers’ Home Cemetery and instructs the superintendent of the Arizona Pioneers’ Home to manage and maintain the cemetery.

·              Enables the superintendent to lease parts of the land and authorize burials in the cemetery.

·              Instructs the superintendent to deposit proceeds from the lease of the land into the Lease Proceeds Account and states that those monies shall be used for statutorily prescribed purposes of the Arizona Pioneers’ Home and the Arizona Pioneers’ Home Cemetery.

·              Prohibits the superintendent from selling, exchanging or bartering that land.

·              Requires the Arizona Pioneers’ Home to request appropriations for the maintenance of the cemetery in its biennial budget estimate and request for appropriations.
