HB 2073 requires that voting equipment meet or exceed the minimum requirements of the Federal Elections Commission.  It also gives the Secretary of State the authority and responsibility to revoke the approval of voting devices.

 

History

            Current law gives the Secretary of State the authority to approve voting machinery, but not specifically to revoke approval of voting devices.

 

Provisions

·                      Adds hardware, software and upgrades to the types of voting equipment that must be tested prior to recommending the use of the equipment in an election.

 

·                      Requires that the hardware, software and upgrades be tested and approved by an independent laboratory.

 

·                      Requires that any voting equipment or machinery adopted by the committee appointed by the Secretary of State meet or exceed standards set by the Federal Elections Commission.

 

·                      Allows the Secretary of State to revoke approval of election equipment if it fails to meet minimum requirements.

 

·                      Makes technical and conforming changes.
