As Passed the House

HB 2072 would require DEQ to provide solid waste management agencies and facility owners and operators more advance notice for any proposed changes to the statewide plan. DEQ would also update and readopt a solid waste management plan at least every five years.

History

The current statewide solid waste management plan establishes the standards for solid waste facilities.  Under current law, DEQ has at least three months to notify facilities of any proposed changes to the statewide plan.  The current statute also states the plan shall be updated as deemed necessary by the director of DEQ.

Provisions

·                      The notification time is increased from a 3 month to a 6 month minimum.

·                      The Director of DEQ would be required to update the solid waste management plan at least every 5 years.

·                      A session law requires the Director to complete the next statewide solid waste management plan by December 31, 2003.
