aggravated assault; transit workers
HB 2054 expands the classification of aggravated assault to include assaults against either a public transportation driver or passenger.
Under Arizona law, any one of the following actions is considered assault:
·
Intentionally,
knowingly or recklessly causing any physical injury to another person;
·
Intentionally
placing another person in reasonable apprehension of imminent physical injury;
·
Knowingly touching
another person with the intent to injure, insult or provoke.
The law also classifies certain types of assaults
as aggravated. These are defined by statute
and carry greater criminal penalties than assault.
