AN ACT

MAKING APPROPRIATIONS TO THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY FOR HIGHWAY PATROL PERSONNEL AND EXPENSES.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1. Appropriations; purpose; exemption

A. Notwithstanding section 28-6537, Arizona Revised Statutes, the following sums are appropriated from the highway user revenue fund in the fiscal years indicated to the department of public safety for the following:

1. $4,622,600 and 58 full-time employee positions in fiscal year 2001-2002 and $7,598,000 and an additional 58 full-time employee positions in fiscal year 2002-2003 for highway patrol personnel and operating expenditures for the personnel.

2. $850,100 in fiscal year 2001-2002 and $1,700,200 in fiscal year 2002-2003 for overtime expenditures associated with highway patrol officers including personal services and employee related expenditures.

3. $5,442,200 in fiscal year 2001-2002 and $6,255,400 in fiscal year 2002-2003 for the replacement of highway patrol vehicles.

B. The fiscal year 2001-2002 appropriations made in subsection A of this section are exempt from the provisions of section 35-190, Arizona Revised Statutes, relating to lapsing of appropriations until June 30, 2003.

Sec. 2. Emergency

This act is an emergency measure that is necessary to preserve the public peace, health or safety and is operative immediately as provided by law.
