AN ACT

RELATING TO THE FEDERAL SCHOOL BREAKFAST PROGRAM.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1. School breakfast program; report

A. Schools in which thirty-five per cent or more of total enrollment have been qualified as eligible for the federal free or reduced price school lunch program but that do not offer the school breakfast program must report their reasons for nonparticipation to the department of education by September 1, 2001.

B. By October 31, 2001 the department of education shall issue a report to the governor, the speaker of the house of representatives, the president of the senate and the members of the joint legislative committee on hunger and shall transmit a copy of this report to the director of the Arizona state library, archives and public records and the secretary of state. The report shall be related to school year 2000-2001 or 2001-2002 and shall include both of the following:

1. Data on the participation rates of schools and pupils in the federal school breakfast program.

2. A summary of the reasons why schools choose not to offer the school breakfast program, as reported by schools.

Sec. 2. Delayed repeal

This act is repealed on January 1, 2004.
