AN ACT
MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE ARIZONA STATE LIBRARY, ARCHIVES AND PUBLIC RECORDS FOR CULTURAL HERITAGE DEVELOPMENT.
(TEXT OF BILL BEGINS ON NEXT PAGE)
Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:
Section 1. Legislative intents; findings
In this act, it is the intent of the legislature to protect Arizona's resources and, at the same time, to invest in Arizona's libraries and museums so that they will help expand Arizona's economy. Many recent studies note that a strong cultural and educational infrastructure is vital to a community's economic development. In Arizona, libraries have been at the forefront of providing information for the development of the new economy, business attraction and expansion in their communities, and museums have positioned themselves to take advantage of the growing and lucrative cultural heritage tourism industry. This joint effort between the Arizona state library, archives and public records and the Arizona humanities council, the two primary agencies that work with libraries and museums statewide, will provide the training and resources to enable more libraries and museums to participate in this economic development initiative.
Sec. 2. Appropriation; purpose; exemption
A. The sum of $1,000,000 is appropriated from the state general fund in fiscal year 2001-2002 to the Arizona state library, archives and public records for expenditure and grants for the following purposes in accordance with procedures established by the director of the Arizona state library, archives and public records in cooperation with the Arizona humanities council:
