duties
Clarifies and expands the
powers and duties of fire districts.
In Arizona, fire districts
provide fire and emergency medical services in unincorporated areas of the
state. Fire districts are also required
to prepare annual budgets and determine the salaries of fire fighters, as well
as hold monthly public meetings.
S.B. 1310 clarifies the
powers and duties of fire districts and adds that a district may assist the
state fire marshal in the enforcement of the uniform fire code.
There is no fiscal impact
associated with this bill.
Provisions
1. Expands the requirement that a fire district determine compensation to include all district personnel.
2. Adds that a fire district may provide services deemed necessary for fire protection, preservation of life and for carrying out its other powers and duties.
3. Allows a fire district to enforce the uniform fire code when expressly authorized by the state fire marshal.
4. Clarifies that a fire district may adopt resolutions establishing fee schedules for providing fire protection services and services for the preservation of life.
5. Provides for a general effective date.

Reinserts
the provision allowing a fire district to contract with a city or town for fire
protection services until the city or town elects to provide regular fire
protection services.
2.
Removes
the provision allowing fire districts to provide ambulance services when
authorized to do so.
