motor vehicle continuation

 

Purpose

 

Continues the motor vehicle division until July 1, 2005.

 

Background

 

The Arizona Department of Transportation is organized into four operating divisions: intermodal transportation, motor vehicle, aeronautics, transportation planning.  The motor vehicle division, (MVD) is responsible for transportation activities including: vehicle credential issuance, driver license issuance, records maintenance, revenue collection and management, legislative support, enforcement of related vehicle laws, international ports of entry, motor carrier regulations and special investigations.  MVD operates 67 field offices and 22 ports of entry statewide.

 

The Committee of Reference for the Sunset Review of the motor vehicle division did not achieve a quorum during the October 7, 1999 meeting.  Therefore, no formal recommendation was voted upon.

 

Provisions

 

1.      Extends MVD until July 1, 2005.

 

2.      Provides for a general effective date.
