Provisions:

C                     Prohibits a person driving a pickup truck or motortruck on a highway in this state from transporting a person in or on the bed of the pickup truck or motortruck.

C                     Allows a police officer to stop a person driving a pickup truck or motortruck that is transporting a person in or on the bed of the truck and issue a verbal or written warning.

C                     Requires a police officer to issue a written warning to the driver of the pickup truck or motortruck if the police officer determines the person riding in or on the bed of the vehicle is under the age of 18.

C                     Allows the following exceptions for the person riding in or on the bed of the pickup truck or motortruck:

-           Transportation in an emergency situation.

-           The vehicle has an enclosed camper or camper shell which prevents the person from being discharged.

-           Transportation during an organized parade.

-           The truck is on private property.

C                     States the provisions of this act do not apply if they supersede requirements imposed by any other state or federal law regarding the transportation of employees in a motor truck.

C                     Defines motortruck and pickup truck.

 

A strike everything amendment was adopted in the Health Committee to prohibit riding in or on the bed of a pickup truck or motortruck as explained above.

 

The Health Committee amendment was adopted in Committee of the Whole.

 

HB 2480 failed on Third Reading.
