AN ACT

ESTABLISHING A JOINT STUDY COMMITTEE ON MANDATORY MOTOR VEHICLE INSURANCE.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1. Joint study committee on mandatory motor vehicle insurance

A. A joint study committee on mandatory motor vehicle insurance is established consisting of the following members:

1. Three members of the house of representatives who are appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives. No more than two of these members may represent the same political party. The speaker shall designate one of these members to serve as cochairperson of the committee.

2. Three members of the senate who are appointed by the president of the senate. No more than two of these members may represent the same political party. The president shall designate one of these members to serve as cochairperson of the committee.

3. Three members who are appointed by the governor.

B. The committee shall:

1. Conduct hearings on and examine mandatory motor vehicle insurance requirements in this state and the impact of those requirements, including any changes in the number of motor vehicles covered by motor vehicle liability policies and any changes in the costs incurred for injuries and damages due to motor vehicle liability insurance coverage.

2. Make recommendations regarding mandatory motor vehicle insurance requirements in this state.

3. Submit a final report containing its findings and recommendations to the speaker of the house of representatives, the president of the senate and the governor on or before December 1, 2000 and shall provide a copy of this report to the secretary of state and the director of the department of library, archives and public records.

C. The committee may use the services of legislative staff as required.

Sec. 2. Delayed repeal

Section 1 of this act, relating to the joint study committee on mandatory motor vehicle insurance, is repealed from and after December 31, 2000.
