Purpose


Establishes a study committee to analyze Internet privacy, jurisdiction, regulation, taxation and 21st century communications issues.

Background

The 12-member study committee on Internet privacy, jurisdiction, regulation and taxation established by H.B. 2639 consists of six legislators, a representative of the Government Information Technology Agency (GITA), a member appointed by the president of ASU, a member appointed by the president of U of A and three members of the public appointed by the Governor who have expertise in mail order sales, Internet law and computer hardware manufacturing.

Provisions

1. Establishes a study committee on Internet privacy, jurisdiction, regulation, taxation and 21st century communications issues.


2. Requires the committee to submit a report containing the committee's findings and legislative suggestions to the Governor, Speaker of the House of Representatives and President of the Senate by December 1, 1999.


3. Repeals the committee on July 1, 2000.


4. Contains a general effective date.
