Assigned to EDUC FOR COMMITTEE
ARIZONA STATE SENATE
Phoenix, Arizona
FACT SHEET FOR H.B. 2614
Purpose
Allows a non-custodial family member to enroll a pupil in a school district in which the non-custodial family member resides.
Background
Children who reside with a family member other than a parent or legal guardian may
experience a delay in school admission as statute does not currently address the enrollment of a pupil
by a non-custodial family member to a school district in which the non-custodial family member
resides. It may take from four to six weeks for a non-custodial family member to be granted custody
of a pupil which can delay pupil enrollment into a school district where a non-custodial family
member resides.
H.B. 2614 allows a non-custodial family member to enroll a pupil in a school district in which
the non-custodial family member resides during the process of seeking legal guardianship or custody
of the pupil.
