Abstract for HB 2639 (study committee on internet issues) Sponsors: Hatch-Miller, Gardner M, Horton, et al


Purpose:

HB 2639 establishes a 12-member study committee on internet privacy, jurisdiction, regulation and taxation. The committee includes six legislators, a representative of the government information technology agency (GITA), a member appointed by the president of ASU, a member appointed by the president of U of A, and three members of the public with expertise in mail order sales, the internet and computer hardware manufacturing.

Provisions:

1. Establishes a 12-member study committee on internet privacy, jurisdiction, regulation and taxation.

2. Directs the committee to conduct hearings and complete a study on internet, electronic mail and 21st century communication systems.

3. Requires a report to be submitted to the Governor and the Legislature by December 1, 1999.

4. Repeals the committee on July 1, 2000.


HB 2639 passed the Government Operations Committee unamended.
