Bill Summary for HB 2655 neglect; minors; duty to report Sponsors: Hershberger


HB 2655 amends laws relating to the duty to report child abuse.

Specific provisions include:

Includes continuous sexual abuse and furnishing obscene or harmful items to minors as grounds for reporting child abuse.

Requires a person to report abuse within 6 hours by phone or in person and if it is a person required to report by law, shall follow with a written report to the local law enforcement and child protective services (CPS) within 72 hours.

Requires a minor's medical records be made available at no cost to law enforcement or CPS within five days after the request is submitted.

Requires law enforcement and CPS to conduct joint investigations, if possible, and shall exchange reports. If one agency does the investigation without the other, and the allegation is substantiated, the investigating agency shall immediately notify the other agency by phone and mail a written report to the other agency within 5 days.

Amends the definition section.
