ON THE DEATH OF CHARLES BRYANT WHITING.
Charles Bryant Whiting passed away on December 13, 1997 at the age of ninety-three.
Born in Mexico on December 11, 1904, Bryant Whiting moved with his family to Arizona at the age of eight. He lived the remainder of his life in Apache County, marrying Lucie Hall in 1931 and raising a family in the Springerville/Eagar community. Bryant Whiting began his career as a building contractor and subsequently become a real estate agent, the owner and operator of a sawmill, a rancher and an insurance salesman.
Beginning his political career as a Clerk of Court, Bryant Whiting went on to be elected to the Arizona State Senate in 1934 at the age of twenty-nine. He served for a single term and was elected to a second term in 1953. In 1960, he was appointed by Governor Paul Fannin to the State Highway Commission where he served for five years, the last year as chairman. Bryant Whiting later continued his tradition of public service as mayor of Springerville and as a member of the Springerville school board and hospital board.
Bryant Whiting gave selflessly of his time, energy and abilities over the years to benefit various civic and religious causes. A dedicated member of Rotary International for more than forty years, he served as president of the Springerville Rotary and as governor of the Rotary district that included all of Arizona. He also served as president of the Springerville Booster Club, which was a driving force behind the incorporation of the Town of Springerville. Bryant Whiting also distinguished himself within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints through a lifetime of service that included stints as bishop of the Eagar Ward, president of the St. John's Stake and president of the Arizona Temple in Mesa.
Dedicated to his family, Bryant Whiting will be greatly missed by his wife, Lucie, sons, Jim, Mike and John, brothers, Fernard and Bill, eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Be it resolved by the Senate of the State of Arizona:
That the members of the Senate express regret at the passing of Charles Bryant Whiting and extend their sympathies and condolences to his family and many friends.
