ON THE DEATH OF JOSEPH F. RUSSO.
Joseph F. Russo passed away on June 18, 1996 at the age of seventy-two.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Joseph Russo lived most of his life in Arizona. He completed two years of service in the United States Army and remained in the United States Army Reserves until 1967. In 1953, he became a teacher and coach at Prescott High School, which he subsequently served as counselor, assistant principal and principal. He served in numerous other instructional and administrative capacities over the years, including serving as assistant superintendent of Prescott Schools. He also served as dean of student personnel services, dean of instruction and president of Yavapai College. After his retirement in 1984, Joseph Russo served briefly as interim president of Burlington County College in New Jersey and as acting business and humanities chairman and acting dean of academics at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott. In 1990, he was appointed by Governor Rose Mofford to the State Board of Directors for Community Colleges of Arizona and from 1976 to 1983 he was the Governor's appointee to the Arizona Commission for Postsecondary Education.
Despite the demands of his work, Joseph Russo gave selflessly of his time, energy and abilities to various civic and educational organizations. His professional affiliations included membership in the National Education Association, the American Association of School Administrators, the American Association of University Administrators, the American Association of University professors, the American Management Association and the Legislative Council of Arizona Interscholastic Association. In addition, he was past president of the Reserve Officers Association and a member of the Prescott Frontier Rotary Club, the Arizona Academy, the Governor's Task Force on Teacher Education, the Prescott Town Hall and the Salvation Army board of directors.
Joseph Russo's commitment to his community and to excellence in all aspects of education earned him the well-deserved respect and admiration of all who had the privilege to work with him. He received the Builder of a Greater Arizona Award in 1967, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers Education Achievements Award in 1982 and the Outstanding Community College Alumni Award in 1983, and he was listed in Who's Who in America.
Dedicated to his family, Joseph Russo will be greatly missed by his wife, Jean, daughter, Nancy, son, Joe, three sisters, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of Arizona:
That the members of the House of Representatives sincerely regret the passing of Joseph F. Russo and extend their sympathies and condolences to his wife, children and other family members.
