Reference Title: respite care; elderly; appropriation

AN ACT
AMENDING TITLE 46, CHAPTER 1, ARTICLE 8, ARIZONA REVISED STATUTES, BY ADDING SECTION 46-193; MAKING AN APPROPRIATION; RELATING TO RESPITE CARE.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1. Title 46, chapter 1, article 8, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 46-193, to read:

46-193 . Respite care for care givers program

THE DEPARTMENT SHALL DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT A STATEWIDE PROGRAM TO PROVIDE RESPITE CARE FOR CARE GIVERS OF THE ELDERLY. THE DEPARTMENT SHALL ESTABLISH GUIDELINES REGARDING THE DISTRIBUTION OF MONIES AND RESPITE CARE SERVICES. FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS SECTION, "RESPITE CARE" MEANS SHORT-TERM CARE AND SUPERVISION SERVICES PROVIDED TO AN INDIVIDUAL TO RELIEVE THE CARE GIVER.

Sec. 2. Appropriation

The sum of $185,000 is appropriated from the state general fund to the department of economic security for fiscal year 1997-1998 to implement the respite care for care givers of the elderly program.

Sec. 3. Reporting requirements

By March 31, 1998, the department of economic security shall submit a report on the efficacy of the respite care for care givers of the elderly program to the governor, the president of the senate and the speaker of the house of representatives.
