Senator Arzberger called the meeting to order at 1:32 p.m., and attendance was noted.
Julie Szperling, Senate Assistant Analyst, stated the Committee of Reference is charged with a performance audit of the Governor’s Telecommunication Policy Office. On October 5, 1999, a letter was mailed to this Office requesting it to respond to the factors of the sunset process. The Office chose not to address these factors, and in a letter dated October 19, 1999, (Attachment A) requested the Telecommunication Policy Office be sunset.
Chris Gordon, Governor’s Executive Assistant for Information Technology, stated there is no such thing as the Telecommunication Policy Office, and the Government Information Technology Agency (GITA) has been charged with the functions of this Office. He noted that GITA has been carrying out that charge for the last four to six months and is doing a good job.
John Kelly, Director, Government Information Technology Agency, was
also present to speak if necessary.
Representative Kyle moved the Committee of Reference recommend the Governor’s Telecommunication Policy Office be allowed to sunset in accordance with the existing statute. The motion CARRIED by voice vote.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 1:35 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Karen Neuberg
