Representative Jack A. Brown is a Democrat from St. Johns, Arizona, serving Legislative District 5. Brown, who is the Minority Leader Pro Tem in the Arizona House, previously served 8 years in the Arizona State Senate, as Senate Minority Leader, including 2 years as Senate Floor Leader.
Brown serves on the following House Standing Committees: Water & Agriculture, Rules, and Ways and Means. Additionally, he has served on the National Conference of State Legislatures’ (NCSL) Legislative Management Committee and the Water Policy Committee of the Western Legislative Conference of the Council of State Governments (CSG). On January 20, 2008, The Arizona Republic named Rep. Brown to their list of “The Modern Arizona Legislature’s Shining Stars.” One of only 50 listed, the article states Brown is a “congenial, calm lawmaker, respected for evenhandedness and common sense. . .” The Arizona Republic further states, “Has institutional knowledge of issues and agencies. Often elected to leadership as one who can bridge coalitions and partisan differences.”
Mr. Brown is a native Arizonan and lifelong resident of St. Johns. He is a realtor, rancher, and farmer in eastern Arizona. Representative Brown is a graduate of Brigham Young University, with a degree in Agriculture and Economics. Brown is active in community affairs and has served with the following organizations: President - Apache County Fair and Racing Commission, Arizona Cattle Growers’ Association, Arizona Academy Town Hall, Apache County Board of Realtors, Kiwanis Club, and The Boy Scouts of America.
Legislative District 5 encompasses Southern Apache, Gila, Graham, Greenlee, and Southern Navajo Counties. While Mr. Brown considers himself a representative for all of Arizona’s interests, his primary focus is serving as an ardent proponent for the rural areas of Arizona. Representative Brown vows to continue being a “watchdog” for the lifestyles and rights of the rural communities.
